(on another local expat site recently) author: Hola!! We've just moved to the area on Sunday for at least 6 months while we look for our own house. We have 2 dogs and a 13 year old daughter. Just wanted to introduce ourselves and see if anyone had any tips for us on the area... loving it so far
Welcome, we have been here 20 years! Take it slowly - dont rush into anything, spread yourself around and see what there is for you as a family. Its quite a mix of ages here - definitely not just an old community - alot of younger families these days. Enjoy Chic its has its ups and downs!! ****
Welcome we bought our house with Skyline in La Barrosa ****
Enjoy the dry warm days! ****
Welcome. Processionary Pine Caterpillar season soon. Try to avoid buying a home with pines in the garden or nearby. Apart from the caterpillars, which are particularly dangerous for your dogs, you will spend the rest of your life sweeping up pine needles from the garden and pool (if you have one). Note how the roots do dreadful damage to local roads - think about them under your house! Also note that these trees are protected and you risk fines if you cut them down. ****
author: extremely helpful thank you!

AMAZON PRIME VIDEO TV has lots of channels, last night looking for Arsenal match, scrolled down each 1 & pressed each 1, luckily about the 5th or 6 th channel - found Luton / V Arsenal .
Game was still on & saw last 10 mins including goal scored by Declan Rice in the 97minute at Luton Town (after watching all of Dalziel & Pascoe on Drama TV channel)
(pays to persevere)

(on another local expat site recently) author: My daughter wants to send us a Christmas present that will go in a letterbox. Any ideas? She lives in Washington DC and wants to avoid postal charges at both ends.
We always order things online for direct delivery, Amazon, photo books, hampers....etc Much easier, no postage hassle. ****
I tried to post something from the UK to Spain earlier in the year. It sat in customs for four weeks and was then returned. All in line with allowed items - I spoke with Royal Mail HO and they said that the Spanish post is notoriously bad in dealing with international post. I ended up bringing it over from the UK and posting there ****
Not worth chancing it. I tell all Family and Friends not to send anything. We can exchange greetings on WhatsApp. ****
Should not be an issue if it's from the States I have recently bought a full horse harness from the US came through no issues at all ****
Definitely all of the above comments.... I tell all family and friends... no cards no gifts... just a phone call or facetime is enough for us. ****
Totally agree Helen, trying to get anything through customs here is a nightmare.....a couple of people sent an envelope with greetings cards to recycle from uk cost 20e on receipt....not worth it.

(on another local expat site recently) author: Are there any homeless charities In the chiclana area? Specifically for the homeless and hungry? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Are you looking to donate or help out? Then people might be able to help or share. If so share on Chiclana Chat for the expats or on local Spanish Pages. People always need help. **** this is the chiclana chat page. The reservation I have with big collections is the locals hardly see what you donate. It’s very difficult but would rather visit myself if there is s charity for the homeless specifically if I can. I’ve just came back from Manchester where I have made a connection with a great charity there and we are now helping them with sleeping bags and providing hats and gloves for as many as 50 rough sleepers. I wanted to try and do the same here. **** Calor en la noche is a homeless charity that does food and very specific clothes deliveries in Cadiz, San Fernando and Jerez every Saturday evening when The Red Cross is not working. They aren't working in Chiclana as far as I know. You can see how to help donate or work as a volunteer on their website which is in Spanish and English. www.calorenlanoche.org/es **** author: Thanks all. I’ve got in contact with one from above comments and hopefully can meet on Saturday. Thanks for all your help.

(on another local expat site recently) author: Hello everyone, A question about a Spanish phone number: In many stores in which we shop, we are asked for a phone number. If we enter our German telephone number here, it will not be accepted. We would therefore like to introduce a Spanish SIM card. So I searched for prepaid rates, but I don't understand the offers properly. There’s always something about a running time here. In Germany, prepaid means that you can buy a volume of data or phone minutes for an amount x and it only needs to be recharged when it is used up. Doesn't matter if it's used in a week or only after 6 months.Of course, now I don't feel like buying a SIM card, where I have to pay 15 € per month. In my search online, this one was the cheapest deal. Can you tell me something about this (I just need a phone number and I don't need volume of data) www.digimobil.es/movil/miniThank you Aswell internet? **** author: no, only an phone number Maybe a lobster sim… I pay 12 euros a month… you can stop it and start it any time you wish and you just pay for the month you have activated it.. keep same number. Perfect for what you need without any commitment… you can also make free calls and texts to Germany included on that sim, and lots of other counties included too **** www.lobster.es/pay-as.../small-spanish-sim-plan/... ****

Remember that this year we are suffering from a severe drought, and even though the rains have arrived, the situation is still critical💧💔 You from your home can also contribute to saving water:
✅ Give you quick showers instead of baths. ✅Fill a bucket with water while the shower water is heated and then use it to scrub or water plants. ✅Close the faucet while brushing your teeth or soaping your hands. ✅ Recycle. When recycled you save thousands of liters of water.

(on another local expat site recently) author: I’m looking for advice on pellet heaters, if anyone has experience and could point me in the right direction . Pros and cons best place to buy. Thanks
We love our pellet fire it was in the house when we bought and we have lived here nearly nine years There is no dust and little ash to clean up Wherever you buy from make sure they are able to service the fire ****
We have had our pellet burner for 3 years much more efficient & cheaper to run than previous wood fire , quite expensive to buy we got ours from Casa Chineneas in chiclana they were very helpful. ****
I have friends with them, who were getting tired of jumping heavy logs, but now say the bags of pellets are as heavy. I must say their houses are lovely and warm as tfe fan blows, but you can also get those little fans that sit on a wood burner and they make a difference. All fuel will go up in price and you can shop around for pellets and logs. Casa de Chimenea sell pellet burners as do some of the solar power businesses. ****
We too have a pellet fire, having previously had a log burner and I can definitely say the pellet fire is much better, cleaner, no smell, easier to use!! ****
I have a cheap baeza pellet burner from leroy merlin. For me it works way better than wood, no smoke, easy to clean and I pay much less than I paid for wood. But I only have a small space to heat! I get it serviced every 2 years which costs about 100 euros. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Hello my lovely friends over in Chiclana. I’m looking to bring a tour group over for the Feria de Jerez or the Chiclana Feria. I’m looking to hire a nine seater minibus to take our group on various visits. For example Yuegada de la Cartuja. Róyal Equestrian School of Art.Campo abierto, Tío Pepe etc. There would also be a few trips to the beach and various restaurants. I have done this before myself. However, it would be nice to be able to enjoy rather than drive all the time. Is anybody able to offer this service over 5 to 7 days at a reasonable price. Many thanks in advance. Hi, send you a PM. We run Nordic Walking holidays out here, Spring/Autumn. Might be able to help if dates work. www.nordicwalkingholidays.co.uk **** Hinterland Tours By far the best in the business **** I too recommend Hinterland Tours, they looked after us very well. **** Agreed, Axel is an excellent driver and guide.**** What are the dates of the Feria in Jerez and Chiclana this year ?
