I don't think you get to choose a specific GP, you have to apply and they will allocate one to you. ****
you can ask to change to a specific Dr, can’t ask multiple times, but you have a right choose a Dr, not simply be allocated to one. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: The efficiency of the emergency staff at Longuera is fantastic. I knocked my gum yesterday whilst brushing my teeth and woke up this morning looking like the Elephant Man. Quick jab in the bum to bring the swelling down and a course of anti-biotics - in and out in 15 minutes. Incredible service
Consider writing them a letter of appreciation, my wife and I often do this when it is deserved. So many people only complain when things go badly. I can guarantee it would be appreciated. ****
author: I completely agree and trust me, I write constantly to people that make my life easier. My doctor even gets a Christmas gift because she's an absolute star. I have no problem in praising those that deserve it because we are, as a rule, a nation of moaners
Did they put the antibiotics in your bum also ? ****
author: no - the injection is just an anti-inflammatory to bring down the swelling

Does anybody know if it’s possible to register a dependable parent as part of your social security or even if it’s possible so I can get him registered under the social security system of my own autónomo etc for health care? Yes you can. You can easily do it online with digital certificate. Both have to have TIE and padron. It's under AÑADIR BENEFICIARIO. ****

If he gets a UK state pension he is entitled to an S 1. You get it from the overseas dept of the DWP. They just need his details and his UK National insurance number. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Can I take my perscripsion to a hospital because the doctors are closed ? I don’t want to take up appointments when people need real treatment but it looks like the doctor has accidentally taken one of my medications off when adding something else on and I can’t sort it till Monday and i’ve been taking it for 2 years so I’m getting bad headaches !! As you can see (photo) it’s codine so they are definitely not going to give it me at a pharmacy without the perscripsion being active
author: I posted this yesterday I’m not so bothered now will just fix my prescription tomorrow I was just going to go if they had a go kind of service there thank you
You can buy that in the pharmacy over the counter ****
author: you can’t this one has codine in
If I am not wrong - you can get that one without prescription as its a low dosage. Online says it doesn't need a prescription. Give it a try. If you go to hospital you would have to go as a A&E pacient ans could take hours. ****
The place to go in situations like this is Longuera, near the blue bridge. They seem geared up for it. ****

I love grapefruit, especially the pink ones, and I planted a tree some 15 years ago or more. So I was distraught when I discovered I had to stop eating them. However, after hearing something I went into my doctor's and asked him if there was a statin that I could take, and would he change my prescription. He did so and this weekend I shall be rediscovering my love affair with the fruit. For those of you with an interest in following in my footsteps, here is the Statin's details (photos) Also a picor two from the tree and its delicious fruit.

I went to town was given forms and Web address... came home couldnt book an appointment so in fairness i gave up. And now i can't find the piece of paper.... (Lucky I suppose 5 years in I haven't needed to do this already 😅) Does anyone know how to get an appointment at the social security to get them medical cards. I never had to do it as I got mine in covid and obtained my number quite easily... Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks You just need to enter all your details in here to get an appointment. For the actual appointment you'll need to have a certificado de empadronamiento to prove the children live at your address, their birth certificates etc to prove you're their parent. Basically take every document in your house and You'll hopefully strike lucky w6.seg-social.es/ProsaInternetAno.../OnlineAccess... ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Hello everyone- I have a question about access to healthcare in Chiclana or this part of Spain, How easy it is get access to healthcare? How good it is? and is there a long waiting to see a doctor?
My husband and I are living in the Algarve at the moment, he has European passport and I got residency us wife. In The Algarve even if you have private healthcare insurance you simply can’t get to see a specialist any sooner then 3 to 4 months and let’s not even mentioning the public healthcare system, it’s impossible too get an appointment to see a doctor. I try to get an appointment to see a dermatologist regarding a lamp that is worry me a lot, checked in 3 different big private hospitals in the Algarve and the earliest appointment I could get is in June
and on the public healthcare they couldn’t even tell me when, they put me in a waiting list.
Please give me your honest response, because sometimes I feel that people on the groups avoid say anything negative about a place because they leave there or sometimesthey relying on people wanting to move there to make money like state agents for example. Have access to good healthcare it’s really important us. We are both healthy but you never what tomorrow brings. Thank you
The Viamed Hospital Group are not expensive if you join, you pay a monthly fee and then a cost per consultation or treatment which is cheaper than outright private care and appointments are usually pretty quick. ****
If you're pensioners the family monthly subscription is 13 euros ! ****
We have never had a problem with getting to see a doctor in an emergency (we have four boys) or an appointment. My wife had a skin worry and we had an appointment in a week or so. We have never been turned away from a same day appointment if pushed for either. We also have cover with viamed and have never waiting more then an hour for an appointment after walking in (tonsillitis etc). ****
To be able to have entitlement to public healthcare in Spain you would need to be working here or pensioner. Once you are in the system you can normally get to see your GP with in a couple of days and then depending on the specialist needed waiting lists can be longer or not. If you walked in to a hospital with an emergency you will get seen and treated With private healthcare sometimes you need to have been with the company a couple of months before covering certain things but you can normally see a specialist/ tests within a few weeks. ****
So far, we can't speak highly enough of the doctors or the service received. Always managed to get an appointment within 1 week. 1 specialist appointment I had was 9 weeks, and another is only 7 weeks away. Excellent ****
I’m told our waiting lists for minor surgery are about 3 months. ****
Christmas before last I pulled a back muscle so severely I couldn't walk. My neighbour got me into a car and ran me to La Janda, an NHS/ private hospital. They didn't notice my EHIC had expired, neither had I. My neighbour said 'it's busy' . About six people. I was seen very quickly by a Columbian doctor. X-ray, blood test, cortisone shot, and posh painkillers I'd never heard of. Said If I hadn't been flying the next day I could have had an MRI scan in their mobile unit. Newcastle sent a code to the hospital on my return to cover the cost. Now have a new EHIC, plus my Viamed. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: When I pass, I prefer burial (in Chiclana) to cremation. Where do I start?
Good to plan ahead but make sure whoever has to carry out your wishes has the funds to do so. ****
that's why a funeral plan sorts it all out. Cuts out the stress and worry. Having just had my dad's done he had nothing planned and it was awful to sort it all. In Spain we don't have time to think so definitely plans are such a sensible thing to have. Both myself and my daughter are now covered. Peace of mind indeedy ****
i agree, and we have one as well ****
we did ours years back ****
What happens if you take funeral plans out here it then leave Spain before you die ****
ours is valid in the UK too ****
you've made me think. My family lives in the US so who knows where we'll die. ****
You can only rent a burial plot and after a number of years the remains are exhumed and placed in an ossuary (basically a box with just your bones in it). If you contact any funeral home here they will give you the options - it's not cheap that's for sure. Cremation is much cheaper and even that is expensive ****
My husband and I made an arrangement to leave our bodies to the Medical Dept of Cadiz University. However it was stressed to us that if they had sufficient bodies at the time, then they would not take our bodies. We have also made funeral plans with a company so that we have covered all bases. I just wanted to make life easier for our kids when our time comes. ****
