(on another local expat site recently) general ....just saying author: Weather forecast this week couldn't have been more wrong. Two days of Sahara sand followed by torrential rain!! Still waiting. Sack the weather man I say
We have sand everywhere this morning ****
I nearly got blown over in the supermarket car park - and that's a mean feat ****
As long as it's the levante, no rain but sand & unexpected gusts. Poniente from the ocean, brings rain & wind is more consistant. Perso prefer poniente, fed up of cleaning up sand. ****
we have roughly 10 days of rain coming tomorrow ****
yep Easter islooking great! ****
That's why in the Netherlands, a while ago, it was proposed that the weather report in the news should only be about explaining yesterday's weather. More accurate... ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: I know this happens everywhere but I’m always so shocked if it happens locally It’s generally so safe here… scary Ayuntamiento de Chiclana Oficial 👮 ♂️ Local police arrest an individual moments after robbing a pharmacy armed with a machete👉 The incident took place yesterday afternoon at an establishment on Diputation Avenue, while the detainee was moved to the Civil Guard headquarters for the corresponding investigation of the facts 📌 All the information here ⬇️ www.chiclana.es/.../la-policia-local-detiene-a-un... We have been robbed with an armed hand. I am the pharmacist who was with my brother. Luckily, my brother was able to run on time before the Moroccan subject took him with a machete. He stood behind me and I tried to intimidate him by telling him that we couldn’t open the box since we didn’t know his code. The subject all the time threatening asked us for the money until he saw the cameras and changed his attitude. I prefer not to keep talking about the event, but I went out on the street pointing to him on the public road and shouting that he was carrying a gun, since, he could hurt other people (who by the way stood still and looked at me threateningly, hesitating if to return). Finally the police came and I was able to get out of the situation without problems together with my brother. Our pharmacy is the D6 of Chiclana de la Frontera, and we are burned by these events because it is already becoming something routine. We are defenceless and our state security forces are also defenceless. A shame. **** This is the second time they've been done. **** Doesn't shock me whatsoever. It's the boat people again - protect them as you will, stand up for them as you will but it is rife in the UK and now has hit our shores. This was in the afternoon yesterday when it was still light and people were about. It won't be long until this really gets nasty **** author: really is thought a local person not one of the refugees, it says living in Cadiz. I only scanned through the article Where was this **** author: avenida diputación in chiclana

(on another local expat site recently) author: SUR in English
School pupils from IES Pedrera Blanca de Chiclana secondary school were on the Costa de la Luz's La Barrosa beach when they found a cannonball measuring 20 centimetres in diameter that probably dates to the Napoleonic period, according to preliminary investigations.
The discovery was made while the youngsters were taking part in one of the Chiclana Natural activities called Geoedúcate II, in which participants walk along Lavaculos beach to study the rich geology and nature along Cadiz province's coastline. One of the pupils found the projectile half-buried in the sand and reported it to those leading the activity, staff from Althea study centre and their teachers.
As it is not a modern projectile and did not contain any explosives inside, it did not present any risk when handled . Those responsible for the activity notified the Guardia Civil and Chiclana Natural of the discovery. Police officers took charge of the object for safekeeping, pending any decision as to its final destination.
In turn, Chiclana Natural informed Chiclana Museum the authorities would be informed as to where the cannonball would go on display.
According to initial tests, it seems to be the kind of ammunition used in 12-pounder cannons, which were intermediate artillery pieces that fired cast iron balls weighing just over five kilos, like the one found. Erosion, however, has reduced the size and weight of the piece found.
It was widely used on land as infantry, field and siege artillery, such as in the siege suffered by the city of Cadiz. At sea, the 12-pounder cannon was regarded as a weapon of modest calibre when compared to the large 36-pounder or 24-pounder pieces found on many warships. In land campaigns, however, it was considered to be heavy artillery, so its use was quite common during the Battle of Chiclana, and it probably dates from that period.
It could also have been a sea-launched projectile, since this weapon was widely used by most of the major naval powers from the 17th to 19th centuries, deployed on most frigates and warships.

(on another local expat site recently) author: Good morning. My name is x and brand new to this group. We have just returned from touring around the Costa del Sol, Cádiz, Seville and other areas looking for a potential 2nd home. We will return in September to continue our search in the areas around Conil de la Frontera. We will certainly be residing outside the busy tourist season and wonder whether anyone could kindly advise/highlight uson this highly recommended beauty spot. Thank you in advance. Glyn Lewis from www.andaluzhomes.co.uk is your man. He’s knows the area so well and the market. There is no hurdle Glyn can’t deal with and with the team Templecambria for legal advice you would be really well set up. **** Jillian Shaha Tomkinson at HouseShop chiclana is the person to speak with. Personally, I have been here 20 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. The pitfalls of Conil is there isn't much going on in off-season but it is incredibly busy during high season. Chiclana, on the other hand, always has something going on, even in off season. There are clubs, quizzes, sporting events, wonderful restaurants that stay open all year round. Dependent on whether you have a family or not - there is much to do for both adults and children alike. If you're an animal lover and have your own then there are numerous dog walks and the beaches are open in the off season for the dogs. We have a wonderful community here and, personally, I think the best beaches **** author: Many thanks and appreciate you informative feedback. Conil everytime , not so quiet out of season nowadays, its so lovely and very different from Chiclana. **** In my opinion Conil is a little too quiet in the winter season, but depends what you want. Chiclana is better! **** author: Will certainly visit Chiclana - many thanks. It all depends on what kind of life style you have, kids, etc. We searched around Conil, Chiclana, Rota and Chipiona and the winner was Chiclana! Best of luck **** It does all depend on what you’re looking for. If its beauty you’re after then I recommend the authentic and historically important village of Medina Sidonia. It doesn’t have an off season, it isn’t overly touristy and has activities all year round. Another plus is that it has all the “amenities”, all walking distance from the center of town: such as an open air food “mercado”, local butchers, fishmongers, fresh fruit/veg vendors, bakeries, medical center, post office, dentists, physiotherapists, notary/lawyers offices, accountants, hairdressers, beauticians, shoe and clothes shops, boutique’s, pharmacies, etc, etc. I would def explore further afar than Chiclana **** Conil is so crowded in summer!! **** turismo.chiclana.es/ **** author: Yea need to come back one day was not enough.

(on another local expat site recently) author: What a remarkably painless experience that was!!
I had an appointment today at 11a.m. at the police station to update all of their documentation now that they've turned 18.
Got seen at 10.45a.m., out by 11.00a.m. just 42 euros lighter and a brand new Passport and DNI.
Why can't everything be so efficient? Now to book flights 😊
