NEW - PROVISIONAL REG DOCS 📄

Over the last few months, the DGT has been implementing changes to help make the registration process for foreign vehicles a bit more seamless and to avoid potential legal problems for owners of newly registered vehicles.
EXISTING SYSTEM
The DGT has gone to great lengths over recent years to make most administrative tasks for vehicles paperless, but for newly registered imported vehicles there is still the necessity to provide the physical documentation, namely the Permiso de Circulación and the Ficha Técnica.
WHAT HAS CHANGED
To help ease the constant pressure caused by the volume of registrations, the DGT has now allowed for newly registered, foreign vehicles to be issued with provisional documentation which is available as soon as the vehicle is registered.
BENEFITS
The new changes allow for vehicle importers, gestorias and other agencies to provide a provisional registration document pending arrival of final registration documentation. The provisional registration document is valid for 90 days, can be used to order your new registration plates and can also be presented to your insurance company in lieu of final registration documents so that you can arrange cover straight away.
RULES
Whilst it’s always advisable to have a paper version of the provisional document in your vehicle it’s okay to have a digital version on a mobile device to show to the police or Guardia Civil if you are asked to do so.

Don’t forget that the DGT have a handy app available on both Android and Apple where you can manage your vehicle(s) and driving licence and related notifications. Although the signup process can be a little complicated, once installed and working it’s a really good app.
