author: Good Morning everyone, Can anyone tell me how easy/difficult is it to close a Spanish bank account, sterling and euro. Is it possible to do it from the Uk ?
I closed one and I was requested to come in in person …. A lot of red tape… ****
author: what sort of red tape, will I need to bring extra paperwork from the uk ?
I had to attend with all bank cards... ID's .... passports etc. Then you have to fill in all the particular forms and sign. Then they'll ask how to arrange payments of your account balances. Everything involves an admin charge ****
If it's Santander it will be a nightmare. Had to close my friend's account in Chiclana. They were the rudest, most obstructive people I have ever dealt with. In the end I went to the Conil Branch, job done! ****
We were with Banco Marsh they charged us 20euros to open and the same to close ****

author: My parents in law sold up here their holiday home, the bank was asking ridiculous fees for closing their account here & they had to be here in person (which was impossible) , in the end we just cleared the account and left it like that.

There is a repair place a couple of shops down from the Ferrateria on the strip in Los Gallos. Ive used him before, very efficient and good rates ****
There's also a place in Puerto Real on the end of the block of flats where the heladeria is across from the council offices ****

author: Hi everyone, We are a family with a boy of 5 and a half. We were wondering if there is any schools around where he could go from this April till the end of the year. Any ideas are welcome. Our base is in chiclana de la frontera. Thank you
Hi! We are in Chiclana and arrived in April last year with kids and they were in school within about a week. You’ll need your padron, then just go to a school near where you live and they will give you a paper application. There might not be space at the school near your house, but they will find a place for your son in one of the local schools **** (This is for public school, if that’s what you’re looking for - your son would be in the infantil school in the 5 year old class)

author: does anyone know of a golf course which offers good junior coaching /academy? We are new to the area. Many thanks.
+34 664 32 39 38 Mitchell. Have a chat with this guy. Currently training to become a pro down at one of the local courses. Playing around scratch at local course. Might be worth giving him a shout and he might be able to offer some discounted classes to get you off the starting blocks here. He also knows the local golf scene inside out as been living here since he was 4. Great lad. Good luck ****
David is excellent with youngsters and adults . Campano golf san Andrés ****

author: I´m thinking about having central heating installed and just wondered if anyone has any experience, advice or recommendations.
just don't go with radiators - we've had central heating for 18 years and we're just having them taken out. They cost a fortune to run and maintain ****
Is that because the water is so hard ? I believe underfloor with a heat pump is the best, but the heat pumps use a lot of elex to run I've been told. ****
It was just a pain to maintain them - we used to have to go to the salt flats to buy all of the salt to fill the enormous deposit and then we could get through 6 of the massive gas bottles every 2 months and they used to be 70 euros each. We've had the lot taken out and are wearing fluffy slippers and dressing gowns instead!! ****
I know it can feel cold in stone houses. However the winters are short! On really cold days, like that Jan in 2021 we just kept the log fire going 24/7 and one of those paraffin heaters from Leroy made a real difference in the hallway. Also have one of those portable gas fires for early morning if the fire is out. If I was refurbishing from scratch I'd consider underfloor heating. ****
I’m just getting quotes for this myself I was torn between under floor or central heating so looked into both. We have gone for central heating that will go with solar also calefacción aerotermia. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author:Hi everyone and happy Easter🥳 does anyone know if you can still have bonfires? When you have to stop? Cheers
hung out all my washing today and the neighbour lit one . ****
Sorry to hijack, but does a charcoal bbq on a town centre roof terrace come under this ban? Sorry if it is a stupid question ****
doubt that a " controlled " BBQ in the town centres will banned ****
author: Yes I wasn't sure if it's still permitted so wanted to be sure. I'm urbanised so not sure even with that if I still can.... obviously only will if I can if I have to wait so be it just thought as only April maybe it's ok
Think there’s different rules in urbanísed areas to rural also ****
There are already fire warnings in Andalucia and Murcia area ****
No fires permitted now, I can’t find the link for confirmation though. Happy Easter ****
