author: N332"While on holiday in Spain. Can UK driving licence holders borrow a friend's car?" Of course, with your British driving licence you can drive a friend's car. The Spanish Traffic Department (DGT) does not establish any restrictions about the fact of driving Spanish vehicles with foreign licences. In the same way, you can go to a Spanish hire car company and hire a vehicle, you can drive other people´s vehicles. 1st - Check you have a licence according to the vehicle you wish to drive and the legal age to do it. (Provisional licences are NOT valid in Spain) 2nd - Ask the owner about the insurance coverage. There could be some restrictions in the specific conditions on the policy for drivers aged under 25 and/or holding a driving license for less than 2 years. 3rd - Check the vehicle is insured and with a valid inspection. (The fine would be for the owner but the vehicle could be inmovilized.) ADVISABLE; If you are going to drive the vehicle for several days, we advice you to ask the owner for written permission. Why is it advisable? What type of document?, Where can I get a copy?... Click here and download a copy made by us; n332.es/permission-to-use-your-vehicle/Situations we have seen patrolling; - When they have an accident or a breakdown, the owner does not answer the calls and their vehicle is in the middle of the road. They do not know what to do or who to call. SOLUTION; Before driving, ask the owner for the insurance company name of the vehicle and its road assistance phone number. - When they do not place the triangles or used the high visibility vest because they do not know where they are. SOLUTION; Ask the owner about the location of these items. In case of needing them, you will be fined if you do not use them because as the driver YOU are responsible for it. - When they are stopped by the police, and officers ask them for the logbook and itv card, and once they check that these documents are not in the glove box, they begin to call the owner. SOLUTION; Check these documents are in the vehicle before driving. It is advisable to take a copy of the insurance policy. You will need it to fill in an accident statement report.

author: So, I want to spend more time in my house in Chiclana this year but need an affordable mode of transport to at least get me up to El Colorado and the beach. Any recommendations / thoughts/ advice on any second hand places to look for a) small moped b) electric bike or c) those annoying stand up electric scooters??? Thanks guys
Electric bike (“fat bike”) might be an option ****
I don't know about Spain, but 35mph is illegal for a bicycle at least in the UK. ****
no idea - just saw that was the maximum speed on the notice. I know a lot of people enjoy them here when they get tired /hills… and they cope well with sand ****
I have one in the UK. They're fun and you can get as much exercise as you like, but when you're tired you can just up the assistance level. I often drive past that bike shop in town, the road in from Pago, on a corner just before you get to the river etc and might see if they sell ebikes one day. Safer than a scooter, but the advantage of the latter is they fold down and you can pop them down on the beach etc. I suppose you can do the same with a bike when it's not busy. ****
Gives you the option to start with exercise. I know they sell them at decathlon too ****
Electric scooters are not just annoying but dangerous, I'd steer clear, especially in the summer when there will be a lot of traffic. Are you aware of the relatively new bus service between San Andres and La Barrosa? ****
We have a couple of those annoying scooters, and they’ve been fantastic. We don’t take the car out much in the summer, unless we need to go shopping. Parking near the beach is a nightmare in the summer. ****
author: how much do they cost to buy? And how long does the charge last? The beach is 8 km away - will it get me there and back without any trouble?
we got ours for 375 each. Depends on what model you buy. Range on these is approx 40 kms (realistically 30 kms with uphill etc). We take them into town, and to the beach and back. No issues. Easy to lock up. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: I have just spoken to Tony the Taxi Driver. He is in Madrid but he has 4 taxis that will be working on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
You will have to reserve them in advance though as they will be incredibly busy so I'd get in quick. The number to call is 683 198 454

Anyone doing taxis on new year's eve after 0100 (therefore on 01.01.24) apparently Chic taxis are striking, understandably (when you read the reasons)!

author: My family are flying into jerez on the evening of the 18th and are getting a cab from the airport to their accommodation in Jerez (yes, we have offered to pick them up but they said no need). I know there are always taxis outside the airport arrivals - what I'd like to check is if they can pay on a credit card or if they need cash. And if anyone can give me a ball park of how much it costs from Jerez airport to town centre by taxi, I will pass that info on to them. Thanks a lot.
I think I paid 27€ last May. ****
I think there is a minimum charge of 25€ to the centre of Jerez...****
15 or 16€ & payable by card - to Yeguada. Not sure to Arenal area.****
Spanish taxi’s always have an airport tax. With many airports you if you get the taxi from just outside the airport the tax does not come into effect. Sadly there is nothing near Jerez airport. The train is cheap and I believe there is a bus. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Is there anyone here who would be able to pick us up from the airport in Malaga on Sunday and take us to the Chiclana area? my husband's car broke down... I'm traveling with 2 girls, 12 and 3, we'll spend the night at the airport, the buses will probably exhaust us... a taxi costs 250 euros (that's what one driver told me). Maybe someone will be traveling and has 3 seats? Of course I will pay for fuel and time. I am writing hoping for a miracle!
author: Guys can you also recommend a mechanic without much of mañana approach?
what's wrong with your car? I might be able to help. ****
author: I am not sure apparently nothing serious but the mechanic that 'takes care of it' has been putting it off for over 2 weeks now
Cheaper for hubby to rent a car and pick you up. ****
The price for car rental is about 12€ a day in Chiclana at the weekend. ****
Have you tried bla bla cars? My husband and I got one from chiclana to malaga for €8.00 a seat, just had a quick look there is one malaga to cadiz sunday morningbfor €49.00 ****
author: i need a car seat for the little one so it is a bit more tricky but will try, thank you
Jutta Harris: I am there to help if needed. It's all a bit stressy with kids. You can't compare that as you would travel allone. You need a child seat, etc.****
