author: Morning everyone. Couple of questions about the pesky caterpillars....so does the spray only kill what's already there? Does it last a while to stop more nesting? If not does any know of a way if there is one to stop them from nesting in the first place? Also once sprayed and they die, are they still a danger to pets? Thanks for any info everyone have a great day
Injection is the way to go. It doesn't kill them, it prevents them from nesting in the first place, so you don't get the dead caterpillar all over. This is the 5th winter we've had our trees injected, and it works 100% guaranteed. Not one caterpillar or nest on any of our trees. Has to be planned in advance though. Our trees are injected every Oct/Nov. The other advantage of injecting is that it's quick and clean. We have 6 trees done. Just 3 holes drilled in the bottom of each tree and injected. All done in 30 mins and no mess and I would say its relatively cheap for the peace of mind. And yes, they are still a danger to pets when they're dead. It's the hairs that are the irritant, and cause the reaction in pets. The only solution is to stop them nesting. We have 5 dogs, hence we get the injection done. ****
Ross McCormack exactly! Iโve been doing various injections on many of our gardens over the past 12/15 months - and all positive feedback.
Once they're there the spray will only kill what's already there and the person that sprayed the trees should take away the nests with them. To avoid them at all, best time to get the spraying done is October/November before they arrive ****
good morning! What happen to the caterpillars, after injecting the trees? Are they falling down one by one after dying? ****
Ross McCormack my comment was to help prevent them, as in author's post asking how to prevent them, before they arrive. Unfortunately after the Injection it would be a similar affect as spraying but it would take longer after they appear. The injection of the trees is for helping prevent them.
I'm searching for the best solution for me and my doggies too.... ****
Ross McCormack unfortunately after they have arrived itโs a very difficult situation as to clear them to prevent them falling as in another post on here this morning. The problem you have is where you live, with so many neighbours not taking any precautions itโs ok to do your trees but neighbouring trees could then cause issues.

author: WARNING DOG LOVERS, they are back again Chiclana park this morning, on the picnic table at the entrance, all dead but no less dangerous.
They seem to come earlier every year!!! ****
author: eveb when they are dead still dangeres, just do not touch them ****
my brothers dog lost half his tongue ****
then the dog was very lucky to have survived. please be careful ****
I don't have a dog now but may I ask which caterpillars are these exactly and what do they do for a dog? ****
author: they are also dangerous for humans. They give you huge blisters/burns, they can also cut off the hair for protection. Many dogs are missing a piece of their tongue or worse. Several deaths have already occurred. Be careful don't touch them, and don't kick them to death either, you take the hair with your shoes, and you lose them all over the house. Walk barefoot for once and they got you
i think they can irritate a dogs eyes ****
author: whole parts of the tongue and nose can swell and die, several dogs have already died, please do not touch them.
