I know you have to make an appointment for driving licence renewal at viamed. Please can someone who has recently done a renewal tell me
what the process is when you arrive and what happens when you have done it- do they take your current licence/ how long do you wait/ where do you collect new from?

It's so straightforward they take you to a room on the right hand side the person in there will give you a little test on a machine to test your Co ordination also a
small medical test after that they give you a certificate to allow you to drive till your new licence comes through mine took 2-3 weeks to come through to the posthouse Good luck xxxx

Hi, my husband has just renewed his, very easy. Went to his appointment had a quick dexterity test and eye test, was given a piece of paper to keep in the car, explaining he was waiting
for a new licence, and it arrived in the mailbox 3 weeks later. €21. xxxx

Always use our Spanish licences for car hire in UK - no problem. Good idea to get cover with world wide insure that covers your excess and full breakdown,

We did last year Spanish driving license is fine we used carjet rentals quite reasonable ****

Whilst this list is by no means exhaustive, it covers the main codes that you will come across on a typical Ficha Técnica vehicle registration document.

DEADLINE to exchange your BRITISH DRIVING LICENCES; 16th September 2023.

After this date, your UK or Gibraltar driving licence will no longer be valid for driving in Spain, consequently, you could get a 200 euro fine
and the vehicle could be immobilized for driving with a no valid licence.

This regulation is only applied to those who have acquired the right of permanent residence in Spain. Therefore there are two exceptions;
1º.- Those who got their residence less than 6 months ago.
2º.- Non-residents.
(Do not worry if you come on holiday to Spain, you do NOT need the IDP - International Driving Permit-)

If you have a UK or Gibraltar licence, you can exchange your driving licence for a Spanish one without taking a practical or theory test.

I have a temporary Spanish licence whilst waiting for my permanent one and I need to hire a car.
Does anyone know a car rental place that accepts the temporary one as gold car won't accept it?


Get an international driving licence from the DGT in Cadiz. Just make an appointment on line.
Take a photo with you and they will do it for you immediately. ****
