author: Sorry if this is repetetive, but as an EU citizen, not working in Spain, but looking to buy a house, in order to get an NIE I need to have a house purchase agreement in order to make an appointment (and then wait a month or longer)?
Bethan Trebilcock You do not need to prove anything to apply for a NIE number just your passport. Different is of you are applying residency

(on another local expat site recently) author: Hola, anyone know anyone who has applied for an NIE recently please? Can we pay cash at the Police Station or are we sent away to find a bank. Only got one shot at this appointment on Monday (tomorrow) as the guy leaves on Tuesday. Don't want to risk being asked to return another day. You have to take the tasa to the bank and pay there **** You need to take the form to your own bank to pay it or pay it online via your banking **** Hope this helps www.citizensadvice.org.es/.../how-do-i-apply.../.... **** Make sure he has copies of his passport as when we applied for our TIEs we were sent away as we hadn't photocopied every page. The photo shop down by the river can do it for you **** Pay at any bank and return to the police stn **** You might be able to use an atm to pay today if you have a barcode on the form(s). You just follow onscreen instructions and scan the code, input details as requested and pay using a card. Keep any receipts that the atm spits out. **** We went to the bank across the street and came back ****

author: Thanks Everybody. I paid at an ATM in Fuente Amarga, using the bar code, so we went to the San Fernando location armed with the form and payment slip. It was a bit confusing in the appointment as things are different and you can't just simply get an NIE since Brexit it seems. We got one but it was marked "se expede a efectos econòmicos" we were told it was just for buying a house and opening a bank account - it was not a regular NIE
This is not correct. A NIE is a NIE and the number will never change. The difference is most places write on the NIE paper what it is for but this does not change the document at all. ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Hi, I need to get a NIE, can someone help me and point me in the the right direction. Many thanks Policia local **** Try dirección general de la policía **** This site gives you a good step by step on booking an appointment and required documents www.citizensadvice.org.es/.../how-do-i-apply-for.../ **** Bethan Trebilcock highly recommended **** author: hi thank you, i have someone that speaks Spanish, I just thought I could do this myself rather than pay someone. Just wanted to know if someone knew the office I should visit. we paid someone years ago before we moved here but yes I guess you can do yourself Hoping someone can help you with the office , good luck **** It's getting the appointment which can be complicated. And the reason why you need a nie. We did it on our own years ago, I had to redo because I changed nationality & it was laborious. I would not waste time & pay a bit for someone to help you - much less hassle. ****

author: Hello all trying to get stuff sorted and easier to ask people in the know as I’ve not done it for years. To change your Empadronamiento from one address to another, what do you have to take to the town hall? Can you go without appointment? Any info would be greatly received.
Hii no ya carnt go without an apoinment but its very simple or you need is NIE and either the escrituras that its theres or .. renting contract if its a rental and preferable they go personaly if not need an autorización ****
You can't go to the ayutamiento without appointment and you need your NIE + "nota simple" if you are owner or renting contract if you rent I did it like that this last summer ****
author: All sorted now thanks all. I’ve got all necessary paperwork.

(on another local expat site recently) author: anyone got the idiots guide for booking an appointment for empadronamiento, its been that long ive forgotten how to do it on town hall website derrr
If you have a digital certificate you can get one online without having to get an appointment, go there etc. Getting a digital certificate is a simple process and just needs 1 visit to the ayuntamiento with next day appointments. The certificate lasts 5 years and helps you do many things online. ****
author: yeah did that couple of yrs ago , didn't like my password so never got it lol , must be just me ha ha
You do need to have your computer set up with the right software, download the certificate to the same computer you used to request the certificate to the FNMT, and few other things, but it’s well worth getting. It has saved me countless face to face appointments, queues etc.****
Doesn't work if the correos don't know your street - as in many cases, they just don't go there (if not urban) ****
Have been on padron for a long time. When I needed a new one last year, thought great, will do it online with my digital certificate, started process, my street not recognised. No prob, normally can have zn appointment pretty quick at the Ayuntamiento or sometimes works without one, especially if you cry & make out you don't understand. Works a miracle. ****
Think I found it they have messed around with web site lol, well booked in for something next week lol ****
In Madrid I showed up and got it the same day, In Vejer de la Frontera took 6 weeks or so ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Hi, has anyone had their digital certificate expire. Can it be renewed online or does it require a visit to the townhall. I think you get something like 3 months before it expires when you can do it online. You usually get an email. After that it's the Town Hall **** author: I didn't receive an email If the certificate has expired you will need to apply for another one on the FNMT website, then go to the ayuntamiento for example with your NIE / TIE and the code the FNMT will send you. **** sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es/.../renovar... ****
