I’ve heard Ben (formerly CDL Caretaking) has returned to Chiclana. He always knew a thing or two about pools !

author: How long to leave a pool before water after a regrout please? TIA
Ben Walby 24 hrs for grout to dry properly then can be filled. Add some anti-cal to prevent the water pulling impurities from the fresh grout and also be sure not to over chlorinate
Author: Ben Walby thanks
Clearwaterpiscinas Depends on the type of grout used and the weather but generally, in our experience 3 days. It’ll probably say on the sack of grout.

author: Suggestions please as to where I can purchase this type of piston. Its for the sand filter housing lid. Its 33cms long when closed, extending to 55cms. I have tried all of the large ferriterias on Pelegatos and most of the pool shops in Chiclana even Ormotas and Imargesum. All to no avail. next step short of no suggestions is online. Thanks in advance.
I got something similar from Amazon.es. It was for my caravan skylight and I bought a pair for my bed base too. Super cheap. Google the code on it. You should find it online if not Amazon. ****
you could try a metal fabricator (loads in Chiclana) as they may well stock them for making bespoke lids. Amazon defo has them - just search for hydraulic strut. Be sure to purchase the correct rating in Newtons. Too few and the lid wont hold open, too many and you wont be able to close it. Should be noted on the sode of your existing one (xxN) ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: A complaint about a pool going milky and green……
The pool is being used by yourselves and your family who have no understanding of how a pool works or functions….. Have a look at that yellow scum line that has stained this rubber dingy……….. That line is YOUR sun cream and all the other crap you stick on your face, legs and wherever else …….. That is why you should always shower before you get in the pool, at the end of the day, that’s your making…… Always shower well before entering any pool you use if you want it to be in good condition throughout your stay………

(on another local expat site recently) author: Can anyone offer an opinion on pool lining v re-tiling? My pool leaks about 75mm per week. I’ve used a couple of Aqua Stop but doesn’t seemed to have worked. It’s gone beyond the lights so think it’s structural. Any recommendations?
Have you checked all pipelines to see where the leak actually is? Can you see a visible crack to say it’s structural? Pipe works on skimmers and in general are they rigid or flexible pipes? ****
Flexible pipes degrade pretty fast. I don’t even know how they are allowed. So if that’s the case (it was mine some years ago) you’ll have to replace them. Mines were from the skimmer to the motor ****
If the leak is past the lights the only pipework leak option left is the ‘sumidero’ (bottom drain). This is less likely to have been constructed using flexible pipe, but we are seeing lots of failures on rigid pipework and joints around 20 years old now. If you have a structural issue, lining or re-tiling will not solve it im afraid. The cause of the crack needs to be repaired, then remedial work done on the pool itself. Investigation is key here, to try and ascertain the cause. ****
author: I agree, I’ll have to get some investigation work done before I go any further. Thanks

Pool lining v Re-tiling Cont: from above
75mm a week , 7.5 cm So I assume you haven't got your pool on automatic top up Are you topping up by hand via a hosepipe Or are you saying ..you're not adding any water and it's losing 75mms a week ( that's the only way you'd know the extent of a " leak" ) If the latter .. it could be just good old evaporation ... pools are losing a ton of water to evaporation at the moment .. i'd say mine would easily lose that without top up .. mines 8 by 4 Ignoring the above , if you do have a leak .. its pretty much as advised by the others
Historically my.pool lost water till it got below the skimmers ... this was a direct result of the use of consatina pipes and chlorine tablets in the skimmers .. the chlorine flakes collect in the pipe ridges and make them twist and break .. this results in the need to dig up the pipes between the skimmers and the pump house and replace the affected pipes
Note its a good idea not to put chlorine tablets in the skimmers .. you can use pool floats or introduce liquid chlorine If the leak continues and the water continues to drop below the skimmers ..then it's the bottom drain or structural Best to get an expert in

(on another local expat site recently) author: We have a polyester pool and it has a really bad rim of calcium around the edge due to the hard water. I know bicarb of soda and white vinegar works in most cases but I am reluctant to scrub it with a green scourer as I don't want to damage the surface. Anyone got a similar problem? What do you use. TIA
I know bicarb of soda and white vinegar works in most cases". No, it really doesn't. When you mix them they destroy each other. Bicarb plus vinegar gives carbon dioxide plus water plus sodium acetate. Vinegar on its own would do better. ****
I look after a pool that is the same and the best stuff to use is this which you can buy in Orrequia Mota ASTAL POOL Netoline Solucion, Limpia La Linea De Flotacion, Gel Mas Eficaz ****

So how does that apply to ´topping up´ a filled pool, is it only applicable to ´town water´ or does it also appy to well water? ****
no idea to be honest. Just something I've shared from the Junta page. I believe there is also one for people with sprinkler systems ****
Buti the guy that does asphalt and has a water taker near us asked yesterday if we needed pool water as from Monday he was not allowed to deliver it ****
yep, think it's going to be a problem this year. Wonder if they're restricting the hotels and the golf courses on their water usage!! ****
the golf course I play on only uses re- cycled water ****

follows on from prev post re: Piscinas
As it says they await the official publication so they can be absolutely clear As it stands that refers to shared community pools ..it doesn't mention private , whether on town water or well But the reference to " not even from tanker lorries " which generally fill up from private water sources ( wells) .. looks to me like they apply these measures to private homes on wells and definitely those on agua portable And just how will they police it They can control tanker deliveries
De facto any body with a full sparkling pool will have been breaking the rules as evaporation will gradually empty them ****

(on another local expat site recently) author: Let's talk water filtration💧
In the case of a property with salty, hard well water what filtration system do you use? We're concerned about how it will affect appliances and the effectiveness of cleaning clothes. We'd like to completely correct the water for the whole house if we can. What do people use? Can you recommend services/products? Is just softening enough? Would love to hear people's experiences and advice. Thanks in advance
We use a plugged-in water softener for the reasons you mention, even though we have mains water, due to the highish calcium content. I'm aware of a firm called Ikozengua that have a local agent who sell a water purifying system that works with well water. ****
There are specialised companies to help with every water situation who can offer tailored advice depending on your water quality and needs. Send me a pm if you would like information of local people. Personally we have reasonable well water and just use a large filtration device to remove impurities. (Rana verde) ****

Water Filtration
My neighbours in Pago central near Cazadores used to have a water softening system but gave up using it. Mind you that was over 20 years ago and systems may have improved. What I was told was that water softening systems use a lot of water, which is scarce in wells in some areas. I was at the Southampton Boat Show a year ago and for water purification there was a company selling a system that used an LED light. The water straight out of the Southampton Water tasted great. ****

We live in El Marquesado and have always used our own well water. The first washing machine lasted 14 years. The first electric hot water tank lasted 15 years. Not at all sure water softening etc would improve on that!

it's not just a water company. It covers rubbish collection and street cleaning etc ****
