Does anyone know Mijas well. We're planning a few days away mid December - no flying and a shortish drive. I don't like noisy brash resorts and for some reason thought Mijas was quieter and more sedate than the usual costa del sol resorts. What do you think - or can you recommend anywhere else.

Id stay in La Cala de Mijas , which is on the beach rather than Mijas Pueblo or Mijas Costa
The N340 swings inland and around La Cala when approaching from Fuegirola
Youre away from fuengirola and its a bit more up market , although you can get to fuengirola by bus or taxi and once there trains all along the coast to Malaga
You can get the bus to calahonda , and there is now a boarded beach walk nearly all the way to calahonda as well ..you can nose at all the hotels and appt blocks you pass on the N340
You can easily walk all around La Cala , it has a few chiringuitos and beach bars ...the square by the tower has beach side restaurants
There is a swanky Marbellaesque bar / restaurant at the Fuengirola end , Olivias
La Cala is still unspoilt , you can wander the small number of street to find small bars and restaurants
There is a main strip about 200 yards back from the beach , which runs parallel with the N340 ...with bars restaurants and a taxi rank ...you can walk under the N340 to the Feria Grounds for the weekly market
Legends, a small live venue, is as lively as it gets and usually is showing tribute artists aimed at the older market ...can only get about a 100 in , so you have to book
I go there every aug / sept to meet up with some old friends who have been going for years
