June Bank Hols UK 2022
2 June Thu Late May Bank Holiday 3 June Fri Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
The Late May Bank Holiday is a “secular replacement” for the Whit Monday holiday. Late May Bank Holiday is held annually at the end of May to create a long weekend.
To celebrate the Queen's 70th anniversary as monarch, the Bank Holiday 2022 (originally on Monday May 30) will be moved to Thursday June 2 and there will be an additional bank holiday on Friday June 3.
Why is the jubilee in June? The Queen marked her 70th year on the throne on 6 February this year, but she is not celebrating her Platinum Jubilee until June. The reason for this is because 6 February also marks the anniversary of her father's death, as she ascended the throne the day that King George VI died in 1952.
