The laying of the wreath took place at 1130am in downtown Chiclana yesterday as planned. Also the event took place by the tower behind the Royal Hideway hotel at 0630pm. The Spanish,British and French national flags were raised simultaneously to the sound of Ode to Joy performed by a local band The Battle of Barrosa was outlined in Spanish, French and eloquently in English by one of our fellow expats. The Mayor also spoke stressing the importance of peace in Europe. The event concluded with the band playing the Light Cavalry Overture and with a nice glass of sherry enjoyed by all.
Many thanks go to the Mayor and the people of Chiclana for honouring the United Kingdom in recognising the contribution that was made on the 5th.March 1811 by General Thomas Graham,s Anglo Portugees Division.
