Hello all
We’re looking to move to Chiclana next year and will be visiting in January with a view to looking at properties and schools. We have four boys, three of whom are of school age - 9 years, 7 years and 5 years. I am having difficulty researching schools in the area and wondered if you were able to point me in the right direction?
Many thanks! Sam

Hi ,we moved here 14 years ago and our son was 8 at the time, there are several state run schools in Chiclana, depends where you are moving to as to which one will be in your area. There are private schools but they tend to be in Jerez, your lads will need a good level of Spanish as hardly any English will be spoken in schools although more pupils will have some English than in our day.

Thank for the reply. I had heard that it was based on catchment so will keep that in mind. Are you able to name the state schools in Chiclana? I would like to contact them if possible. We will be starting Spanish lessons in January so I am hoping that this will be enough of a start for them. Thanks again

The boys would need a primary school and those are secondary. Names, Alandaluz, Atlantida, tierra Galvan, la barrosa. They are just a few. I recommend that you come in March as you need to fill in application forms and the closing date is the end of march. I think the applications open in February. Otherwise you will be assigned a school according to availability and you may not get them all into one school, although they will try. The form has a 1st,2nd 3rd choice. As in England it depends on availability and catchment area so it would be a good idea to have an address by then. There are people here who work as translaters who could help you and translate. Maybe ask on his forum.
